Taking time to play around... (Sep 8, 2020) by Debbie Barrett-Jones

Sep 8, 2020

Hey All! I hope you are doing well!! I have got to be honest with you... I am just a little bit tired and overwhelmed over here. My girls are going to start school tomorrow. So please send positive thoughts and prayers our way.

I have been pretty busy getting as much done in my studio as possible. I got all my threading done on my big loom which was a HUGE undertaking. Thankful to be done with it... but I just found today about 8 mistakes that I will have to correct or once I get started weaving it will drive me crazy to see them.

I am still working on getting the computerized part of my loom back to working. Because it has been years since I last wove on it there will be some things to fix. EEK!! But I am really hoping by the end of the weekend I will be weaving. (Fingers crossed!!)

I thought I would add a few additional photos of some samples I am working on this week. I will work on them tomorrow at KU. I put on my loom an all black warp and wove two sample with white tencel. Then off the loom I drew on some of the white weft yarn using fabric markers. I am planing to get out my watercolors tomorrow and just have fun. I usually never make small samples AND just play around like this, so I am really excited about it. I will show you how they turn our in my next post. :)

Okay, that is all for now. Thanks again for your wonderful support!!

Much love to you!

Ready to thread my pattern... ( September 1, 2020 ) by Debbie Barrett-Jones

September 1, 2020

Hey all!! I hope you are all doing well on Tuesday morning. I am excited to get back to my loom this morning. Last week I was able to finish threading a white warp on my loom through my reed. I decided to reuse an older weaving of mine that was extremely special to me because it was easy to work with. (I might go into the story later of this weaving I am reusing... if I have time.:)

So, it is about 35" wide and I am using 20 threads per inch, which makes it about 700 white threads that will be in the piece. Yesterday I started threading my pattern behind my loom. I decided to be spontaneous and make up my pattern as I am going!!! I guess I will see if I am successful soon. (Eek!!)

Later today I am going to power up my computer that is connected to my loom to see if it still works... Please wish me good luck!

All the best to you!

Starting to thread yarn on my loom... ( August 27, 2020 ) by Debbie Barrett-Jones

August 27, 2020

It has been years since my loom has had yarn on it and I am excited to let you know that I have started threading yarn on it. I will give you more updates on this soon. I need to just get some yarn on it to find out later if my loom works and what needs to be fixed. My goal is to get everything set to start weaving next week. Wish me good luck! :)
