Meet the artist, explore her process, and learn the inspiration behind her work
As a weaver, Barrett-Jones transforms white yarn into colorful woven pieces of art, each creation an exploration of connection—between herself, her memories, and her lineage. "Thread by thread, beat by beat of the loom, pulling one thread at a time and applying dye or paint, I find acceptance, courage, and gratitude," says Barrett-Jones.
Debbie Barrett-Jones, who recently earned her Master of Fine Arts from the University of Kansas, has exhibited her work at various prestigious locations, including Children’s Mercy Hospital and The Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art. She is also the founder of Healing with Weaving, an initiative that highlights the therapeutic benefits of weaving. Her community outreach program at Children’s Mercy Hospital has provided patients, families, and staff with the opportunity to engage in meditative weaving practices. The next time you visit the MCI Airport in Kansas City, be sure to check out her commissioned artwork.
The event is free and open to the public. All ages are welcome to enjoy the atmosphere, meet the artist, and support the KC local art community.
